Our bones, muscles and joints collectively form the musculoskeletal system; whose job it is to provide support, stability and movement to our body. It is the literal spring in our step, getting us out of bed and carrying us through the adventure of our day.
The body sends clear signals when our bones, muscles and joints aren’t happy with us; stiffness, pain, swelling, redness or tight, sore muscles. Whether these are signposts that we have pushed our bodies too far, that stress is taking a physical toll or that our recurring niggles are hinting at a path to chronic wear and tear, the body is telling us that we need to take action.
The majority of our immune cells and tissues are found in our bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen and thymus, and there’s a lot of emerging science that links healthy gut function with immunity, too.
As with all aspects of health, prevention is better than cure, and the musculoskeletal system is no different. It’s so important to actively care for our muscles, bones and joints that there are many studies linking the fitness of our musculoskeletal system to improved health measures and quality of life; no matter our age!.
Life is not a spectator sport. Take care of our body at every stage so you can play in the game.
